anthony-hopkins-140365_828x1104.png‘Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins has reportedly signed on to star in the film version of Florian Zeller’s play The Father, according to the Daily Mail. The actor will star as Andre, played on Broadway by Frank Langella, who was awarded his fourth Tony Award for the role.

Zeller’s The Father, translated by Christopher Hampton, debuted on Broadway in March 2016 in a production from Manhattan Theatre Club, directed by Dough Hughes. The play was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play.

The Father offers a look inside the fragmented mind of André, a retired dancer living in Paris with early onset Alzheimer’s.

According to the Daily Mail, the English-language screenplay for the film adaptation is co-penned by Hampton and Zeller, with Zeller tapped to direct.

Hopkins recently wrapped up filming on the BBC Two contemporary television adaptation of King Lear (in which he plays the title role), set for release later this year.’
