Hannah Marks to Direct John Green’s ‘Turtles All The Way Down’


‘Hannah Marks, who is perhaps best known for her role on the a BBC America series, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, has been tapped to direct the film adaptation to John Green’s bestselling YA novel Turtles All The Way Down, which Fox 2000 optioned back in 2017.

The story centers on 16-year-old Aza, a girl with OCD, who pursues the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett with her best friend, Daisy. Together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis. All the while Aza is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.

Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker penned the screenplay while Temple Hill’s Isaac Klausner and Marty Bowen are producing. Green and Rosianna Halse Rojas are executive producers on the project. Erin Siminoff and Molly Saffron will oversee production on behalf of the studio.

Turtles All The Way Down will serve as the studio directorial debut for Marks who, at age 25, is among youngest female studio directors in history. Her first directing outing was with After Everything, an indie film that she co-wrote. It premiered at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival and was picked up and released last October via Good Deeds.

Repped by UTA, Untitled, Circle of Confusion, and Bloom Hergott, Marks also recently signed on to direct the indie comedy The Swimsuit Issue for LD Entertainment and American High.’
