B2S Book Club September Pick: Midnight Cowboy by James Leo Herlihy

Our September Books 2 Screen pick is Midnight Cowboy by James Leo Herlihy (1965, Simon & Schuster). You can listen to past choices over on SoundCloud or Spotify.  We will be meeting on September 26th to discuss! It’s the 50th anniversary of the film so the likes of BFI and the Cine Lumiere are doing screenings!

Joe Buck, naively charming Texan cowboy, seeks his fortune in the Big Apple, but encounters Ratso Rizzo, a sleazy, small-time con man with big dreams. Living on the fringe of society, these two outcasts develop an unlikely bond. 

It stars Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voight, Sylvia Miles, and John McGiver.

It was adapted by Waldo Salt ( Serpico, Coming Home, Rachel and The Stranger) and directed by John Schlesinger (Marathon Man, Cold Comfort Farm, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Yanks).

The film is produced by Jerome Hellman Productions and Florin Productions.
